JOB SUMMARY:
Columbia Industries is searching for a Chief Operating Officer (COO) who has strong leadership skills and the ability to approach business with a creative point of view. The COO will lead our business line professionals to be efficient, productive, and effective. The ideal candidate has extensive experience within our industries, preferably having worked their way up to an executive role. We believe this trajectory helps a person develop a unique mix of business and management expertise.
The Chief Operating Officer is a member of the executive management team that is responsible for maintaining and driving operational results within our business line companies. The COO must be a skilled communicator, effective leader and driven businessperson who will spur business line operational growth and ensure day to day operational excellence.
ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION:
Founded in 1963, Columbia Industries is a Washington State 501(c)(3) social enterprise operating within Benton and Franklin Counties. CI is a dynamic organization whose mission is to support and empower individuals with disabilities and other challenges to help them achieve personal success, including community employment and meaningful social engagement. CI’s mission is supported through contracts, grants, business operations and fundraising. CI has a unique corporate structure: a non-profit parent and four, for-profit subsidiaries that provide financial resources for support of the mission and vision of Columbia Industries. CI has an annual revenue of approximately $13 million.
Columbia Industries provides employment services, specialized vocational and life skills training, job coaching and placement, direct employment opportunities, a center for social enrichment, and connectivity to community resources for individuals with disabilities or barriers to employment. These services are available to our clients and program participants as well as to the community at large.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Translate strategy into actionable steps for growth, implementing our business line organizations’ goal setting, performance management, and annual business lines operations planning
- Oversee our business line operations, including a document destruction company, four dine in and delivery restaurants, bottled water distribution and package delivery service, building a highly inclusive culture that ensures team members can thrive and that organizational goals are met
- Analyze internal business line operations and identify areas for process enhancement
- Implement business strategies and plans that align with the short- and long-term objectives
- Oversee business line operations and sales management so that sufficient investment capital can be budgeted for near-term growth targets
- Manage expenses aggressively to ensure that the company achieves targets for growth and profitability
- Drive sustainable growth and minimize losses
- Build business relations

- Identify and communicate key performance indicators
- Work collaboratively with internal and external contacts
WORK SCHEDULE:
The Columbia Industries office is open Monday through Friday 8:00 to 4:30. This position is expected to work additional hours, including occasional evening or weekend hours, as needed.
Qualifications / Requirements
REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Five or more years of experience in executive leadership roles
- Excellent leadership skills, with steadfast resolve and personal integrity
- Ability to diagnose problems quickly and foresee potential issues
