DUTIES:
Under the direction of the Chief Administrative Officer, the Philanthropy Officer shall serve as the principal fundraising officer and operate in a managerial role for Columbia Industries and all its business entities. This position is responsible for championing the planning and implementation of a comprehensive fundraising program, which secures significant financial resources from individuals, foundations, businesses, government entities, and others to support Columbia Industries’ strategic plan and mission, vision, and values. Additionally, this person will be responsible for the planning and execution of signature and annual fundraising events, with support from the fundraising and marketing teams.
- In collaboration with the Chief Administrative Officer, research and create an annual comprehensive development strategy for the organization, incorporating an array of fundraising approaches including but not limited to giving in memorial; annual giving campaigns; major gift fundraising; planned giving; fundraising events; donor recognition and cultivation; and capital campaign management.
- Cultivating and maintaining an active sponsorship program with community partners
- Create a comprehensive donor stewardship plan (to include prospecting, receptions, thanking, and maintaining a current donor recognition policy)
- Champion the planning, development, and execution of annual and signature fundraising events
- Produce in-depth, well-written research briefs to equip internal and external-facing staff for outreach and meetings
- Strong understanding of, or ability to learn, donor database and fundraising software to maintain records of donors and report outcomes of fundraising initiatives
- Basic understanding of, or ability to learn, event management software used cross-company
- In partnership with the CEO, maintain a networking presence in the communities served by Columbia Industries, including weekly donor cultivation meetings and presentations at local Rotary clubs, events, etc.
- In partnership with the Marketing Manager, develop and implement marketing presentations to current and prospective donors to educate them about Columbia Industries’ services
- Coordinate with program managers to ensure accurate representation of programmatic outcomes in development materials, including but not limited to: clients served, fundraising dollars spent, and ongoing program needs
- Work with the Chief Administrative Officer and Finance Department to develop and monitor revenue projections and expense budgets for development functions
- Stay current on trends in fundraising that could benefit/affect Columbia Industries and its mission.
- Participate in organization-wide activities and/or programs, as appropriate
- Adhere to the practices of confidentiality regarding donors, clients, families, and staff
- Have the ability to work evenings, weekends, or odd-hours as necessary for events and programs
- Perform other duties as assigned and special projects by Chief Administrative Officer
Qualifications / Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Effective, courteous, and professional communicator with a general willingness to learn and grow
- Proven experience in a fundraising and development environment, and previous successful execution of fundraising events
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Experience producing development materials and content
- Knowledge of current and evolving trends in major gifts giving and solicitation as well as fundraising principles/practices and ethics
- Excellent analytical abilities that can be applied in aligning the organization’s objectives with available funding opportunities
- Aptitude for tracking and moving prospective donors through a pipeline, from identification and cultivation to solicitation and stewardship
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite including, but not limited to: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Teams
- Ability to balance competing priorities, complex situations, and tight deadlines
- Experience managing donor software and databases
- Ability to work independently as well as a part of a small, but mighty team
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
BA preferred in public relations, fundraising, marketing, sales or communications. Five years’ experience in related fields preferred. Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFFRE) certified or willingness to obtain certification. Must pass background check and drug/alcohol testing.
